The following list describes the five different types of OSPF link-state packets (LSP). Each packet
serves a specific purpose in the OSPF routing process.

1. Hello: Used to establish and maintain adjacency with other OSPF routers

2. Database description (DBD): Contains an abbreviated list of the sending router’s link-state
database and is used by receiving routers to check against the local link-state database

3. Link-state request (LSR): A request for more information about an entry in the DBD

4. Link-state update (LSU): Used to reply to LSRs as well as to announce new information

5. Link-state acknowledgment (LSAck): Confirms receipt of an LSU
